Work
The Community Development Unit of the Gate project has the goal to support the participatory processes in the community of the neighbourhood called Porta Palazzo. It supports the grassroots committees of citizens and the development of new groups of people, through social networking practice and empowering strategies. The Unit offers counselling to local actors and stakeholders to find new resources in the field of social planning and it supplies methodological support in order to spread and transfer the so called community development approach and the skills and competences needed.

Interests
I am interested in European urban regeneration strategies and in transnational peer exchanges and action learning methodologies.

Work
I'm working as a journalist/publisher. My general competence lies in the field of communication, with particular specialization in protection of intellectual property (copyrights, trademarks). My main activity at present consists in the edition of a journal for the area of Barriera di Milano (named Torino Vista da Nord).
I am also cooperating with social and religious organizations, mainly in the field of international cooperation.
As concerns work on social inclusion, I am the president of a new association of parents who have children in four schools of an area named Aurora (near Porta Palazzo). The main aim of our activities is to create relations between parents with particular attention to assisting immigrant families.

My previous work experience was in the animation of youth groups through a religious association and the establishment of networks between various movements and groups (consulta).

Interests
I'm working to further develop the above mentioned parents association. I am convinced that the best way is to get in touch with other organisations and actors that work in the same field. This will allow me to better understand the social problems concerning the population residing in this area and gain useful knowledge about human and economical resources available.
Being a non-professional activist, I am also interested in mobilising professional organisations and stakeholders to obtain the best possible solution for people's demands in this area through so called "cittadinanza attiva" (active citizenship). The establishment of a permanent network center is our final work aim.

Work
I am a socio-educational coordinator with the Minors' Area in the Social Services in one of the territories of Torino (Circoscrizione 7). I coordinate services and interventions for the benefit of minors of age. Amongst the most important: the service called "Educativa Territoriale Minori", some projects in collaboration with various voluntary association in the schools in the territory, the integrations of minors in daily centers, the territorial team called "Neutral Places" (Luoghi Neutri), the coordination between schools and social services in the territory, the work orientation coordination project as well as a cultural mediation service.

Previousl, until 2002 I had other coordination functions in another territory within the city of Torino and worked with psychologically handicaped, in particular I worked with a day care structure and with a residential community-home.

Until 1992 I was a social assistant in a small commune in the province of Torino and then in another territory within the city if Torino (Circoscrizione 5).

Interests
My interest comes from my work experience since I deal with measures concerning social exclusion or risk of social exclusion. I consider it fundamental to get socially excluded people back to training as well as the professional work life. In these 'target' groups, there are unfortunately a great number of young people who have left school and women often with children to take care of.
The reality in my territory (Circoscrizione 7) is such that there is a high percentage of foreigners which is increasing, a lot of these foreigners are either young people who leave school early or women in situations as described above. It becomes important then in our work, to study and think of possible projects, also accounting for other aspects of our territory, which are alternative/innovative social reinsertion/inclusion solutions; solutions that highlight the potential of individuals who we look after. This Gender Equality project 'Latent Potential' appears to be a most interesting and relevant project for me, especially giving me the opportunity to relate to other European situations and their respective projects.

Work

Equal opportunities and gender policies department of the city of Turin .

Its purpose is to integrate in every policy of the city specific aims and to produce essential services to redress inequalities by:

  • the spreading of parity culture and equal opportunities through positive actions
  • the spreading of the knowledge of laws concerning occupational chances, vocational training, assistance and free time activities
  • educational training concerning gender culture
  • research-action to reinforce women's conditions in family life, job and politics

Interests
The local administration, together with its Equal Opportunities and Gender Policies Department, wants to keep on promoting Gender Mainstreaming both inside the administration and to all private and social subjects with which in these years has built up intervention networks. The project 'Latent Potential' allows to look for further strategies and define best practices concerning equal opportunities through comparisons among different partners.

The administration has been contributing for two years on the specific topic of 'ability reinforcement' through the creation of the project 'Spazi al Femminile' (Spaces in the Feminine). This project acts in the quarter of Porta Palazzo, a very high social exclusion area.

Work
I am working with children and teenagers. I mainly organise activities and events which allow them to participate fully in society and to feel socially included. I build up a genuine relationship with the kids and work with agencies of the local authority to break up the cylce of social exclusion through public relation and other diplomatic means. My function lies between 'social cause' and 'social effect' because according to me these facts are closely related with one another.

I have been working for many years with organisations that help people who are in trouble.

Interests
I am interested in participating in the Gender Equality project because part of my work includes to develop good practise making social inclusion a reality in my country.

I think that this project is a good possibility for my to learn more and to find out about specific gender aspects in the social inclusion process.
