Project Introduction

Funding: FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS AND CITIZENSHIP PROGRAMME 2007-2013 Project length: 18 months starting on the 1 st of January 2009
Project coordination: Pierre-Jean Verrando and Nicolas Hauw

The overall aim of this project is to develop innovative approaches to promote participatory democracy at a local/regional level which will increase the participation of young adults(18-30) in the 2009 EU elections AND raise their awareness of their fundamental rights and responsibilities as union citizens.

In order to achive this overall aim the project will create in each partners' location a Local Forum in order to bring together local expertise. The Transnational Exchange Programme will be organised in order to allow local forums to share their experince internationally.

The impact of this transnational capacity-building programme will be quite relevant, not only in terms of bringing together young citizens and local stakeholders from different European cities, but also in terms of creating a connection between the local and the European level. This connection will further enhance the sense of ownership and European citizenship, creating a more cohesive European society. This face-to-face element is quite important in terms of creating an intercultural debate among young participants..
